Konfidence shows support for Team GB's Rising Talent

Children’s swimwear brand’ Konfidence, who celebrates their 20th anniversary this year, is supporting a rising young Aquathlon talent from Aberystwyth in Wales and Masters graduate student from University of Exeter, who will be representing Team GB at the European Aquathlon Championships this month (October 2018) in Ibiza.

Ollie Thorogood, aged 22, is a member of the Exeter Triathlon Club and South West Road Runners and for three years in a row (2015-2017) he won the local Aquathlon series in Exeter. He also triumphed at the Welsh Aquathlon Championships in 2016, which was the spring board for competing internationally for Team GB.

For the last 20 years, Konfidence, a family run business based in Cornwall, has helped children learn how to swim with confidence using their flag-ship Original Konfidence Swim Jacket. They are working with Ollie to not only support his international ambitions but to also raise awareness about the importance of learning to swim through the launch of a new online ‘School of Swimology’ portal.

The School of Swimology is an engaging online portal that Konfidence has designed to recognise and reward young learners’ achievements; from baby swimmers starting out, to older learners who have graduated as Swimologists by reaching key milestones in their swimming lesson programmes.

Ollie also becomes an honorary ambassador for ‘Swimology’ - an expression Konfidence likes to use to articulate the importance of learning to swim as a key life skill. It derives from an old proverb that says you can study all the ‘ologies in the world, but there is none more important than Swimology.

Ollie said: “I am thrilled to be working with Konfidence and support their aims of recognising young learners’ swimming achievements. Growing up in a coastal town it was essential we learnt how to swim and with family members part of the RNLI lifeboat crew I am all too aware of the dangers that the water can pose.Equally, learning how to swim opens up many exciting and fun opportunities; for me it’s with the sport of Aquathlon and I’m so pleased Konfidence are supporting the next stage of my journey into international competitions as a Team GB representative.”

Andy Regan, Founder of Konfidence added: “As a British family company, we are so delighted to be supporting Ollie and to help him achieve his ambitions of competing on an international stage - we wish him every success in Ibiza next month.”

“Learning how to swim has been at the core of everything we’ve done for the last 20 years since launching our Original Konfidence Swim Jacket. In our anniversary year we want to take this one step further with the School of Swimology,” said Andy.“Working with swimming ambassadors like Ollie, and by recognising inspirational swimming teachers and rewarding young learner’s achievements through the School of Swimology, we can together help to raise the importance of learning to swim and the world of opportunities this key life skill opens up.”

Aquathlon is a multi-event sport similar to triathlon (without the cycle leg) and athletes complete an open water swim, followed by a run. Follow Ollie’s journey at European Aquathlon Championships @Twitter tag
