Poolside Protection for Peace of Mind on Holiday

For International Learn to Swim Week, we wanted to talk to parents about the importance of poolside safety on holiday. To give you the best insight, we thought we’d turn to specialist family holiday experts Tots To Travel.

“It’s true, babies and toddlers turn into inquisitive little creatures once they find their feet. This new-found freedom means a lot of exploring and wandering (or crawling) off on their own little adventures. Whilst this is fantastic for development, it can also pose some potential risk – especially whilst on holiday.

The sparkly blue pool water can look attractive to your little ones, making it something they’ll want to investigate. However, all it takes is a lack of poolside protection or a momentary glance in the opposite direction, for your tot to go tumbling into the pool.

Not something that’s pleasant to think about but it is something we know all too well. Our founder, Wendy Shand established Tots to Travel after her two-year-old son Barnaby fell into an unenclosed pool. Frustrated by the lack of safe, family friendly holiday villas available online, she founded Tots to Travel, a specialist child friendly villa and resort company.

It can be tricky to keep little explorers water safe every minute of the day. Whilst you can protect your tots during swim-time with buoyancy aids and floats, just like the ones from our friends here at Konfidence, you can get even more peace of mind by finding holiday accommodation that is child friendly, such as our selection of villas that are equipped with a protective barrier around the pool.. This means that you can sit and relax with your Sangria, knowing your little treasures are safe in their environment whilst still having great fun in the sun!

At Tots To Travel, we have hand selected private villas featuring reliable poolside protection. In fact, we’ve made it our mission to ensure that every single property with a private pool that is listed on our site has a barriered pool. Guaranteed.

Take Villa Ensenyat in Mallorca, for example. The clean and clear private pool is protected by a removable fence and secure gate, ensuring little explorers are kept on dry land until its time to go for a splash.

Not only do we provide guaranteed private pool protection with our accommodation, we also personally visit each property and conduct a 30-point child safety check. To top it off, we include a 20+ baby & toddler essential kit in all of our properties so you can travel light.

If you’re thinking about travelling with babies, toddlers or small children, our number one recommendation when searching for the perfect home from home abroad is to make sure you have pool protection in the form of:

  • Pool barriers
  • Pool fencing – gated options offer even more security
  • Removable pool covers
  • Generic pool safety equipment such as handrails, pool signs, depth marks and lifesaver rings

This advice comes from first-hand experience. Thankfully, when Wendy’s son Barnaby fell silently into the pool, his grandfather was close at hand to pull him out. Unfortunately, not all incidents have such a fortunate outcome.

When you have safety in place from the get-go, you will notice the benefit of having much more quality time to spend with your children enjoying the sunshine, instead of fretting over their safety. For more information on our selection of family friendly holidays, visit us at totstotravel.co.uk.“
